Wrist Rests and Arm Supports

Repetitive strain problems can occur for many reasons, but more often than not there is an element of both static muscle loading (eg. From holding the elbows away from the body without support for long periods of time) and the repetitive use of small muscle groups (especially when teamed with stressed joint positions). Wrist rests aim to provide a resting surface to be used between periods of keying. Instead of holding up the wrists without support, the wrists, arms and shoulders are able to rest momentarily.
With many computer typists, we rest our hands on the table when keying. A wrist rest can reduce the wrist angle between the keyboard and the table and provides a softer surface for the wrist to rest. The newer range of gel filled wrist rests provide both comfort and support without costing a fortune or changing the keyboard and mouse that you are used to using. I have found a range of such wrist rests, in a range of colours, sizes and prices that should provide an appropriate wrist rest for everyone's needs.

The Ergo Rest
The Ergo Rest provides full forearm support whilst using computer input devices without impeding movement. Through such support, it frees the shoulder and upper body from static muscle loading often associated with poorly positioned keyboards and desk space which is confined, requiring keyboards to be perched on the edge.
Available for either right or left handed use. the Ergo Rest offers an alternative arm support for keyboard users when other options have failed.

Goltouch Wrist Rests
The Goldtouch Technologies team has produced wrist rests to team their ergonomic mouse and keyboard systems. These are great wrist supports. The keyboard wrist rests take up a minimum of space. The Goldtouch mouse rest incorporates a gentle negative slope and when used jointly with the keyboard, mouse and numerical keypad you have the Goldtouch system.

Fellowes Gel Wrist Supports
Fellowes were one of the first pieces of equipment that I stocked and still are popular. They have a range of gel wrist rests for keyboards, mice, laptops.
You can also be a little more innovative with their use, for eg. take the mouse gel out of its plastic holder for use with a calculator. The Easy Glide Gel wrist support (featured right) provides support whilst moving freely, with the larger mouse mat allowing ful fluid movement.

3M Wrist Supports
3M has developed the precision mousing surface allowing excellent grip between the mouse and the surface it is moving on. I recommend the precision mousing surface, particularly with the Renaissance Mouse. The addition of the gel wrist support coupled with the precision mousing surface, make the 3M product a superior gel wrist support. You go exactly where you point. The micro-groove polymer surface virtually eliminates slippage at faster mouse speed, improves grip and traction of mouse ball at fast speed. The wrist rest cushioning gel conforms to your wrist. Silky, smooth fabric is non-irritating, non-chafing.
I also sell the 3M keyboard trays and gel support combinations, which allow both smooth fluid movement between mouse and keyboard, but can be used on a corner unit, allowing better use of table space. Again an excellent product, with positive feedback from all customers.

Contour Perflex Chair Arms Gel covers.

The latest addition to the Contour System of Support are the perflex gel products. The Perflex gel products are made of 100% gel to provide added comfort and support. The covers are removable for cleaning and have a non-skid rubber base to prevent slipping. The Charm office chair arm supports which would benefit anyone who uses the arm rests for elbow support
